Groundwater flooding in Finchdean, Dean Lane End and Rowlands Castle

High groundwater levels may lead to flooding.  Flooding is possible from Monday 02/02/2026 because of a very wet January 2026.  In the last 24 hours, the groundwater level at Finchdean has risen by 67cm. It is possible that pumps which prevent water from entering property may be required from Monday 02/02/2026. During heavier rainfall events, surface water could affect property. On Friday 30/01/2026 and Saturday 31/01/2026, up to 15mm of rain is forecast on each day. Sunday 01/02/2026 and Monday 02/02/2026, are expected to be drier. Groundwater levels will rise into next week. If heavy rain affects the valley in the coming days, then it is possible that roads and more properties could be affected later in the week.  We are closely monitoring the situation and liaising with the Flood Action Group.  Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed .  This message will be updated by 6:00PM on 05 February 2026 or as the situation changes.
