Groundwater flooding in the Candovers and Old Alresford

Groundwater levels in the Candovers and Old Alresford are high but relatively stable. Flooding is expected to be affecting the ability of septic tanks to operate effectively. In Preston Candover and Old Alresford, a small number of properties will be experiencing cellar flooding. Mostly dry weather is forecast on Tuesday 10/03/2026, Wednesday 11/03/2026 and Saturday 14/03/2026. On Thursday 12/03/2026 and Friday 13/03/2026, further rain (between 20 and 25mm) is expected. Groundwater levels will remain high and may increase slightly over the next week. We are closely monitoring the situation. Residents in Preston Candover and Old Alresford are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed, in case groundwater levels begin to rise once more.
