Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster


River and Lake levels remain high after recent rainfall. Weather conditions will improve overnight and river levels will begin to fall as we move into Wednesday 10th December 2025. Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers Brathay, Rothay, Winster and other watercourses from Grasmere to Grange-over-Sands including low lying areas around Ambleside, Skelwith Bridge, Windermere, Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cark and Cartmel. We continue to monitor the situation. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. This message will be updated by 10:00AM on Wednesday 10th December 2025 or as the situation changes.
